Beyond the Label

In the far northeast corner of Italy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia was one of the first Italian regions to gain recognition for its brilliant whites. Capisco Pinot Grigio will show you why. A crisp and mouthwatering drop with delightful pear and pineapple tones, it’s sure to please any lover of white wine.

Though winemakers across the Italian peninsula have been producing white wines just as long as they've been crafting red ones, it wasn’t until the 1970s that anyone really took notice. That’s when folks up in Friuli started to embrace modern winemaking techniques and beloved international varieties (in addition to their indigenous ones).

Much to their—and our— delight, they discovered Pinot Grigio especially thrived along their hilly slopes, benefitting from the area’s well-drained soils and idyllic Mediterranean climate. And decades later, their take on the grape is more popular than ever (Pinot Grigio is the second most popular white wine in America, and Italian Pinot Grigio is the best-selling type of imported table wine, period).

Capisco (meaning ‘I understand’) is a testament to the tradition Friuli’s winemakers established. An attractive pale gold color, it delivers waves of orchard and pineapple fruits along a delicate mineral structure. Its lip-smacking acidity, meanwhile, makes it perfect as an aperitivo or partnered with grilled fish, simply prepared chicken and salads of all sorts.
