Beyond the Label

Cabalié is the wine to drink after a long day of empire building. Or maybe just a long day at the office. A sumptuous, fruit-forward red from southern French winemaker Hervé Sabardeil, it's made in the image of the red wines that allegedly bolstered Roman soldiers over 2,000 years ago.

Speaking of ancient, the village where Hervé’s Grenache vines grow, Maury, is home to some of the country’s oldest vines. These low-yielding plants produce seriously concentrated grapes, which translates to major flavor impact in your glass.

A blend of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan, Cabalié offers generous layers of chocolate and intense, sun-drenched berries. It’s a ripe red that’s great on its own and especially delicious with barbecue or any similarly hearty fare that features a dark or fruit-based sauce.

As Hervé says, “Cabalié needs no ceremony, just big glasses to swirl the wine and transport yourself to the rugged hillside vineyards of my region.”
